Traffic and heavy goods vehicles
In recent years the quantity of traffic along Bush Road has grown substantially, particularly by large heavy goods vehicle (HGV’s), despite signs on the A228 near the junction with Bush Road notifying drivers that Bush Road is “Unsuitable For HGV’s”. This increase presents challenges for ordinary vehicles entering and exiting Cuxton via the A228.
Residents’ safety
The increasing movements by HGVs through the residential area of Cuxton on Bush Road, and from there along narrow, unsuitable lanes (including Upper Bush Road and Warren Road) are pressurising road surfaces, pavements and verges and are a potential danger to people and parked cars. They often use the road during school drop-off and pick-up times, sometimes mounting the pavement to get through, putting the safety of school children and parents at risk. Vehicle speeds on Bush Road are also a concern.
Development
A major development south of Bush Road was refused by Medway Council in July 2023, a decision supported by a government planning inspector following a Public Inquiry. This is the Planning Inspectors’ report:
