Threats

Traffic and heavy goods vehicles

In recent years the amount of traffic along Bush Road has grown substantially, particularly by large heavy goods vehicle (HGV’s), despite signs on the A228 which state that Bush Road is “Unsuitable For HGV’s”, which are just ignored. This increase, which also afflicts the A228, presents challenges for vehicles exiting Cuxton onto the A228.

Structural damage and residents’ safety

These increasing vehicle movements by HGVs through a residential area and narrow, unsuitable lanes (notably Upper Bush Road) are damaging road surfaces, pavements, verges and parked cars, and are often passing through during school drop-off and pick-up times, putting the safety of school children and parents at risk. Vehicle speeds on Bush Road are also a cause for concern.

The winery building

Another current and major threat is the possibility of large-scale development for a winery building in or near Bush Valley. One proposal has already been refused planning permission by Medway Council, and again at a Planning Inquiry by a government inspector, but the threat remains.

This document is the Planning Inspectors’ report, detailing the very important reasons for his refusal to allow the appeal, and why the location in Bush Valley is unsuitable for development.
